Abstract—Phase, frequency, and amplitude of single-phase voltagesare the most important and basic information required forsingle-phase grid-connected applications. This paper proposes amethod for instantly and robustly estimating the phase, frequency,and amplitude of frequency-varying single-phase signals for suchapplications, which is a phase-locked loop (PLL) method basedon a structure. The proposed method has the following attractivefeatures:
1) the estimation system results in a nonlinear system, butit can be stabilized;
2) all subsystems constructing the system canbe easily designed;
3) “two-phase signal generator” can autotunea single system parameter in response to varying frequency ofthe injected signal;
4) high-order “PLL-Controllers” allowing fasttracking can be stably used; and
5) even in hostile envelopments,favorable instant estimates can be obtained. This paper proposesthe estimation method and verifies its usefulness by extensivenumerical experiments.

I. INTRODUCTION
PHASE, frequency, and amplitude of single-phase voltages
are the most important and basic information required
for single-phase grid-connected applications, such as ac/dcconverters, uninterruptible power supplies, active filters, estimation of such basic information of single-phasevoltages is much more difficult than that of three-phase balancedvoltages. For example, the phase of an instant three-phasebalanced voltage can be easily estimated by simply convertingthe instant voltage into an instant voltage space vector and
detecting the phase of the space vector. On the other hand,an instant single-phase voltage cannot be treated as an instantspace vector.
