IwamotoScott is one of 100 architects from around the globe selected by Swiss architects,Herzog & DeMeuron,to design one of 100 villas as part of a new development in Ordos,Inner curation and masterplanning of Ordos 100 is overseen by Ai Weiwei and FAKE Design.

The design of Ordos Villa 043 responds to specific features of its downward-sloping site as well as its situation in the larger Ordos 100 obvious geographic and climactic constraints,key site factors include substantial views to the south and east afforded by plot 43's elevation and sloped topography,along with a significant degree of exposure to adjacent public spaces and ,Villa 043 aims to conflate two inverse spatial paradigms:the Chinese courtyard house with its inward focus towards a central exterior space,and the Western villa with its outward expression and orientation to the surrounding 043 transforms these time-tested spatial concepts with site-specific design responses,evolving as an adaptational architecture.
