Because itwas aline from our Chinese parallel Susan Boyle — a50-some year-old woman, avegetable vendor inShanghai, who loves singing Western opera, but she didn ’tunderstand any English or French orItalian, soshe managed tofill inthe lyrics with vegetable names inChinese.
