Give students some time to look at the cartoon on SB, page 15. Tell them to read the sentences carefully. 2. Meaning of the cartoon: The joke in the cartoon is based onapun. The words a haircut can have two meanings. First, a haircut isanoun and refers to the act of having one ’s hair cut. Second, a hair cut isanoun and a past participle, and means that the person would like one hair tobe cut. Since the speaker seems to have just a few individual hairs, we can understand the joke without the need for a long explanation. As usual, the cartoon introduces the main topic for the chapter.
