(can指一般或现在的能力 could指过去的能力)
Eg:He can speak several languages.
She could sing well when she was seven be able to.
注意: was able to(=eed in doing = manage to do)指过去设法做成某事,常表过去能力少指一般或现在
Eg:The fire spread quickly and fortunately everyone was able to get out.
I talked with her for a long time, and finally I was able to make him believe me.
(与may同义) 表情求时could比can更委婉,但回答时要用can
can比could更肯定
Eg:-Who can it be ?
-He may be our headteacher.
-It can’t be him. He has gone to the meeting.
“有时会”或“有时候”
Eg:He can be very friendly at times.
It can be very cold here, even in Spring.
(1)can not + V.(原形)+ too + adj./adv. 再……也不过分;越……越好
Eg:You can’t cross the road too carefully. 过马路再小心也不过分。
You can’t memorize words too many. 单词记得越多越好。
(2)can’t help doing sth. 情不自禁做某事;忍不住做某事

( might 表过去的允许较 might 表请求语气委婉)
Eg:-May I take the book out ?
-Yes, you may./No, you can’t./…
(可能性:can>could>may>might)
Eg:He may be getting ready for his trip.
(不能用might仅用may)
Eg:May you eed. 祝你成功
May god bless you. 愿上帝保佑你
