ABSTRACT
Objectives:Toexaminerelapsewiththermoplasticretainersequippedwithmicrosensors1year
aftertreatment.
MaterialsandMethods:Atotalof42patients(29females,13males)treatedwithfourpremolar

microsensors(HandelsagenturGschladt,Hargelsberg,Austria)wereusedtoassessdailywear
time(DWT),andthepatientsweremonitoredat2-
endofthefollow-up,thefollowingtwogroupswereformedbasedonthemeanDWT:shortwear
time(SWT;,9h/d)andlongweartime(LWT;9h/d).Digitalmodelswereconstructedbefore
treatment(T0),atdebonding(T1),and6months(T2)and12months(T3)’s
IrregularityIndex(LII)andtheintercanineandintermolarwidths,archlengths,overjet,andoverbite
.
Results:Irregularityandoverjetincreased,whereastransversemeasurementsandarchlengths
,overbitedecreasedintheSWT


LWTgroupfortheT1–T2andT1–T3timeintervals(P,.05).
Conclusions:AmeanDWTlessthan9hours/daywasinadequateforcontrollingirregularitywithin
