Oncology unit = anticancer chemotherapies → non specific treatments which can damage sane tissues and lead to:
Acute toxicity = redness, irritations, burns, cough, asthmatic-like reactions, faints and vomiting
Delayed toxicity = mutagenic and teratogenic effects, cancers
3. Do you know the special risks linked to the handling of excreta in oncology units?
Anticancer drugs are eliminated in excreta (urines, feces, vomiting, sweat and saliva) under native form or as metabolites and remain toxic for several days. Then, excreta are also contaminants when handled.
Rq: metabolite: drug derivative resulting from the transformation of a chemical substance in anism (mainly in the liver)
