The importance of waterfront development has been widely recognized throughout the world. Since late 1980s, the surge of new
technologies, movement of industrial zones, enhancements in transportation and other factors have caused decay to old docklands and
cities’ water edges. At the same time, the new global economy requires that cities not pete for financial investment, but also
attract new skilled, talented and knowledge-based workforce, which requires that cities e more livable, attractive, distinct and of
world class.
The earlier essful redevelopments in cities like Barcelona have trigged a great deal of interest and new recognition of significance of
waterfronts. This spurred a wave of other waterfront developments. Deserted dock areas were converted into recreational zones and
