Both English and Chinese Languages have a large quantity of idioms.
Idioms in broad sense may include:

Ⅰ、Literal translation
Be armed to the teeth .
Break the record.
A gentleman’s agreement.
Shuttle diplomacy.
The open-door policy.
Talk black into white.
Add fuel (oil) to the fire (flame)
Love at the first sight.
Ups and downs.
Lose one’s face.
Rack one’s brains.
Eye for eye, tooth for tooth.
New wine in old bottles.
No fire without smoke.
Blood is thicker than water.
Where there is a will, there is a way .

Practice makes perfect.

A good example is the best sermon.
