Humanism is the idea that is focused on
human achievements & potential rather than religious themes.
the man & his world.
everyday human problems & relationships.
pleasure rather than morality.

Conflict with the traditional teachings of the Catholic Church and Medieval thinking.
Humanism
1) show its effect in the reign of Henry VIII (1509-1547), who encouraged introduction of classical literature.
2) Education →revitalized & literature → more popular → England’s Golden Age in literature.
3) English literary giants such as, Shakespeare, Spenser, Johnson, Sidney, Marlowe, Bacon and Donne.
4) The English Renaissance had no sharp break with the past.
