INSPIRATION OF EDUCATIONAL IDEOLOGY IN THE ANALECTS ON TCSL
ABSTRACT
Confucius, a great ancient Chinese educator and thinker, pioneered the Confucian culture, having a profound impact on the development of traditional Chinese culture. The Analects, or the Lun Yü, recorded Confucius’s educational thoughts, such as "no child left behind", "individualized", "indefatigable", "combination of learning and thinking", leaving a substantial influence on ancient and today’s Chinese education. Moreover, with the dissemination of Chinese culture over the world, the thoughts will provide a theoretical reference and practical guidance for the TCSL (Teaching Chinese as a Second Language).
In this thesis, the educational thoughts in The Analects will be explained deeply and systematically with the detailed analysis of many educational quotations. Thus, excellent educational ideas in the Chinese traditional culture will bined with the TCSL, adding contemporary and realistic vitality to The Analects.
The thesis is divided into five chapters. Chapter one generally introduces the research topic. Chapter two is about the history, achievements and existed
problems of TCSL. Chapter three introduces Confucius and The Analects briefly and puts emphasis on the educational thoughts. In chapter four, with the guidance of theories, the educational thoughts in The Analects will bined with TCSL from perspectives of teaching aims, teaching attitudes, teaching methods and teaching contents; the inspiration of educational ideology on TCSL will be analyzed. In the conclusion, chapter five, the author generalizes the major findings and the limitations of the present thesis with suggestions for future research.
