Many researchers have studied how to puter-assisted language learning (CALL). At present, however, most studies are specifically for college students or English majors. There are not many studies for oral English learning of the students in secondary vocational schools. Therefore, the author tries to use the oral English learning software, which is self-developed by our school teachers, to implement the research of puter-aided oral English learning in the Changyi secondary vocational school. In the traditional teaching process of oral English, many students often experience great anxiety while speaking English. Anxiety makes them dare not speak English, which has a serious impact on their learning motivation and efficiency. The students in a secondary vocational school are poor in English language including oral English, which makes them feel anxious and worried while practicing oral English. In order to find a way which can improve the students’ oral English performance while reducing their anxiety in speaking English, the author attempts to explore the feasibility of using oral language learning software to teach English. Anxiety is “an unpleasant emotional state or condition which is characterized by subjective feelings of tension, apprehension, and worry, and by activation or arousal of the autonomic nervous system.”(Spielbeger, 1972:482).Language anxiety could be described as a specific-situation anxiety experience by students, and it is resulted from using a foreign language. There are three related performance anxieties: communication apprehension, test anxiety and fear of negative evaluation.
