American contemporary writer . Salinger’s famous novel The Catcher in the Rye has been popular in the younger groups since it was first published. It is called the “Bible” of young men. As time goes on, The Catcher in the Rye is acknowledged as one of the “classical novel” in American literature history, and it is a symbol of the time and exerts great influence on American young generations.
The story is just about a boy, who tells his thinking, seeing, listening and actions. He is 16 years old and is taller than average height. He wears waterproof and red hunting hat all the day. He is unwilling to go school and idles about time. “Damn, ass, old” is frequently heard from him. He bothers with all about school: teachers, classmates, homework, match and so on, and he is expelled by 3 schools. When he is expelled by the fourth school—the Pencey School for his failure in study, he does not dare to go home. He encounters many characters—Sally Hayes, Carl Luce, Maurice, Sunny and so on when he strolls about two days by himself in New York. municates with these characters, but nobody gives any sympathy for him and nobody can catch his inner world. He finds the society is indifferent, vulgar, decayed and ugly. He is disappointed, lonely, depressed, world-weary and insecure.
