ABSTRACT
The depletion of conventional energy resources and the increasing pressure for the
need to intensify the participation of cleaner forms of energy production in the mix of
electricity generation fostered the development of wind power energy conversion systems.
Wind and hydro both vary, but on opposite timetables Apart from the perspective of
the design of the wind power system, people try to find a more effective way to solve the
issues of balancing and reserve of power in a wind power integrated system such as
batteries, diesel engine and pumped storage power station employed to build up a
complementary system and hydro has long been viewed as the perfect match for wind,
providing the necessary balancing and reserves in an all-renewable package. Hydro offers
some benefits over thermal generation when considered as a wind enabler. Thermal plants
lose efficiency and generate more emissions. Hydro offers near real-time smoothing of
wind’s variability along with cheap energy storage in the form of water in reservoirs. The
planning model of the Wind&Hydro integrated power system is proposed in this paper.
The model aims to meet the higher economic efficiency and reliability, and an operation
simulation and economic analysis are expected to optimize power generation scheduling
and to achieve a credible result of the real system.
This paper uses a fuzzy clustering method to classify different periods into different
time domains and then choose a fixed output value to represent the output of wind power
in continues periods. Finally, the wind speed distribution function is used to describe the
characteristics of classified wind speed data, and expected output of wind power is
obtained via a typical wind turbine power curve.
This paper analyzed the static and dynamic efficiency of the pumped-storage power
station in the wind&hydro system. The dynamic benefit of pumped-storage contains
