 The chief figure in English prose in the first half of the 17th century and
his essays began the long tradition of the English essay in the history of English literature.
Bacon was born in London. His father was Lord Keeper of the Seal during Queen Elizabeth’s reign.
He studied at Cambridge and was brought up with an aversion to medieval scholasticism.
After he left Cambridge he pursued the study of law, gaining admission to the bar in 1582.
During the reign of James I he was appointed Lord Chancellor上院大法官.
But he was charged with bribery and corruption by the parliament when the popular dissatisfaction against the king and his agents was mounting.
