COURSE DESCRIPTION
Students will investigate the interplay of personality and normal psychological changes due to aging. Psychological problems that may occur in old age, as well as appropriate therapeutic interventions, will be examined.
COURSE/DEPARTMENTAL OBJECTIVES
The student will:
Be encouraged to e intellectually curious
Be able to distinguish among personal experience, the popular press, and scholarly literature
Be able to distinguish among stereotypes, prejudices, and biases and the reality concerning aging
Appreciate the importance of and further develop reading, writing, and listening skills
Acquire. if not improve, critical reasoning skills
Understand the nature of this field of Psychology (The Psychology of Aging)
e familiar with the American Psychological Association’s (APA’s) style of writing
e aware of theories of aging
e aware of the physiological basis of and conditions associated with aging
Learn about human anatomy (including the nervous system, glands and hormones)
Understand the wide diversity of human thoughts, feelings and behavior concerning aging
