Chinas government reported the countrys economy expanded at percent in the first threemonths of this year. That is high compared to many countries. However, it is the lowestincrease of its Gross Domestic Product, or GDP, since early 2009.

Joseph Incalcaterra is an economist with the British bank HSBC. He has studied economicgrowth in Asia from 2000 to 2014.
