Abstract In our country,loess area is one ofthe places where thegeological hazard ishighly a resultofinevitability and regionality ofgeological hazard,as well as the restriction ofthe current national economic level,it isimpossible tocontrol allthegeological hazard ,based on the study ofgeological hazard characteristics、laws of temporal andspatial distribution as wellasformation conditions inlossesareas,thestudy on geological hazard assessment willprovide Government and theLand Planning Department 晰m reliablebasisoflandplanning,hazard prevention andreduction,hazard management and decision-making. Traditional geological hazard assessment is on thebasis ofvast fieldsurvey,mainly qualitative dataacquisition and theexpression ofachievement pleted using GIS technology,geological hazard assessment isliberatedfrom plicated manual labor,shortens theassessment cycleandprovides thebasis forthe dynamic with geological hazard detailed investigation in Pengyang,the geological hazard assessment isbased on theGISand theinformation model. Assessment resultsare ordance witllthe ontents areas follows: (1)On thebasis ofremote sensing interpretation and fieldsurvey,the geological hazard cataloging inthehistory plished,as wellasthegeological hazard development overview andtypes have prehended. (2)On the basis of field survey and the study ofnatural geological environmental conditions,geological hazard characteristics、laws oftemporal andspatial distributionas well as formation conditions ofPengyang County are clarified. (3)Referring toresearch background athome and abroad,we summarize the basic theoryandimprove the GIS-based geological hazard assessment. <4)Geological hazard assessment spatialdatabasesystem isestablished inPengyang County,Ningxia.
