分析：following Jane’s way of studying chimps是现在分词作状语。
(1)一听到老师的声音，学生们立即停止讲话。
Hearing the voice of the teacher, the students stopped talking at once.
(2)因为不知道如何解这道难题，他求助老师。
Not knowing how to settle the problem, he turned to his teacher.

２.　while 从句
Everybody sits and waits in the shade of the trees while the family begins to wake up and move off.
当黑猩猩睡醒准备离开的时候，大家坐在树荫下等着。
(1)while 可以引导时间状语从句，表示“当……的时候；和……同时；在……时”;
Her parents died while she was still at school. 她还在读书时父母就去世了。
(2)while还可引导让步状语从句，表示“虽然，尽管”。
尽管他有缺点，我还是喜欢他。
While he has shortcomings, I still like him.

(3) while 可以连接并列句，表对比。意思是：而，然而。
他讲了两个故事，前者很有趣，然而后者很枯燥。
He told two stories. The former was interesting while the latter was boring .
(4) while从句中的省略。当while从句中的主语与主句的主语一致，且谓语含有be的某种形式时,从句中的主语连同be动词可同时省略。
　她在听收音机的时候睡着了。
　While she was listening to radio, she fell asleep.
= While listening the radio, she fell asleep.

３. once 从句once引导条件状语从句，意为“一旦”。
Once I stop，it all comes crowding in and I remember the chimps in laboratories.
我一旦停下来，所有的一切都会涌上心头，我就会想起实验室里的黑猩猩。
完成句子：
1) 一旦养成了坏****惯，你就很难改掉它。
Once you get into a bad habit , it’s very difficult for you to get rid of it.
2) 他一旦下定决心，就没有什么可以改变他。
Once he has made up his mind, nothing could change it.

４. “only＋状语”（介词短语、副词、从句等）位于句首时，后面主句用部分倒装。（only＋状语+be/助动词/情态动词+主语）
Only after her mother came to help her for the first few months was she allowed to begin her project.
她母亲头几个月来帮她的忙，这才使她得以开始自己的计划。
① 只有当我离开父母去意大利时我才意识到我是多么的爱他们。
Only when I left my parents for Italy did I realize how much I loved them.
②只有那时我才意识到我浪费了那么多的时间玩电脑游戏。
Only then did I realize how much time I wasted in playing computer games.
