populate …的人 populous
Eg： 这个城镇的人口增长了20%。

②（全体）居民，群众，表示一个地区的全体居民时，复数形式要加s

对人口的多少进行疑问时，可用：

Eg:山东有多少人口？

(2). live on sth: 以…为生；仅以…为主要食物；靠…生活
Eg：小鸟主要靠食昆虫为主。
Small birds live mainly on insects.
