Data-driven learning: the perpetual challenge Tim Johns (Birmingham, UK) For the practising teacher, the direct use of concordance data in language teaching poses a number of challenges: technical, linguistic, logistic, pedagogical and philosophical. The speaker will outline some early responses to those challenges, and will attempt to define some of the new challenges that may occupy us in the twenty-first century, with particular emphasis on fitting the corpus to the learner: on alternative approaches such as Reciprocal Learning: and on the potential of the Web in defining and supporting a‘ worldwide munity. ’
