Revision of Noun Clauses

Teaching aims:
The students are expected to use noun clauses appropriately in different situations and learn to cherish everyday life with a positive attitude after this lesson.
Teaching procedures:
Step I. Lead-in
Have a free talk.
1. Who won the Nobel Prize for Literature this year?
2. Do you know who won the same prize last year?
Present four sentences and ask the students to point out the functions of the four underlined sentences.
1. The news that Mo Yan won the Nobel Prize for Literature excited us.
2. We are excited / proud to learn that Mo Yan won the Nobel Prize for Literature.
3. The news is that Mo Yan won the Nobel Prize for literature.
4. That Mo Yan won the Nobel Prize for Literature excited us.
Step II. Revision
Read four short passages about Mo Yan one by one, (the reporters’ interview、his competition against the Japanese writer , his masterpieces and the reasons for his winning the prize) filling in the blanks in the passages and making conclusions. After that the students are asked to do some exercises to have a better understanding of the use of the noun clauses.
