In Florida, perhaps more than any other state in the country, the legal status of a vertically mounted (side- mounted) license plate has changed. It is extremely difficult for the av - erage citizen to keep up with such frequently changing laws. The good news, though, is that you don’t have to. We are providing this report in order to help clarify the law as it stands right now and any changes which may be on the horizon. HERE ARE T HE FACTS: ? There has been a bill proposed in the Florida legislature concerning vertically mounted license plates on motorcycles nearly every year since 2008. ? The current law has been in effect since June 4, 2010, which amend - ed two Florida driving statutes: and (3). ? The current text of FL statute (3) reads: The license tag of a motorcycle or moped must be permanently affixed to the vehicle and may not be adjusted or capable of being flipped up. No device for or method of concealing or obscur - ing the legibility of the license tag of a motorcycle shall be installed or used. The license tag of a mo - torcycle or moped may be affixed horizontally to the ground so that the numbers and letters read from left to right.
