The Application of Carbon Nanotubes in drinking water treatment (1)
Water covers 70% of the earth’s surface, but onlant from the city, a system with simple combination of microfiltration, activate carbon and ultrafiltration, could be used to obtain the drinking water, which meets the drinking water standard. In order to remove bacteria and virus in water, some systems contain some filters with anti-bacteria materials containing fluorine or silver. The system will not only remove the contaminant in the water, but also preserve the minerals and trace elements necessary for the human health. The taste of the water may be good, but the releasing rate of Ag or Fluorine is not that easily controlled, it may release more when it needs less and releases less when it needs more in the water to kill the bacteria and virus. Because of this problem, a lot of products on the market can’t meet the standard. As for the highly polluted water, especially the water with high concentration of heavy metals and high hardness, after the treatment from the city water treatment plant, it can not produce high quality water to meet the drinking water standard by only utilizing simple combination of the above mentioned technologies. In this case it will need some special water treatment filters to remove these pollutants and produce healthy water to meet the drinking water standard.
A lot of products have removed the pollutant by RO methods, but there is some disadvantages regarding to RO system, it can't only remove the water pollutants, but also some minerals and trace elements necessary to human beings, which will affect people’s health. It is well known that according to size exclusion method, both RO and UF can remove bacteria and virus, but would still be problem by using these methods because bacteria and virus can grow in the membrane and the membrane may potentially have defects
through which bacteria and virus can pass these membranes. Also the activated carbon and the st
