Abstract: An idiom is a phrase s are the essence of language; they bear the cultural characteristics and cultural information of a nation. The culture differences reflected in idioms are mainly shoent, custom, religion and history. Cultural differences have great influence on idiom formation, and the cultural factors in idioms are difficult points in idiom translation. To solve this problem, proper methods should be used to make the translated versions both keep the national features and convey the meaning of the original.

1****语的含义及特点

(1****语具有固定的结构,不能任意拆开、替换。例如:在英语中我们不能把“leave no stone unturned”改为“leave no brick unturned”,“live from hand to mouth (勉强糊口)”,不能写成“live from the hand to the mouth”,也不能写作“live from a hand to a mouth”;而在汉语中也不能把“七上八下”说成“六上七下”,把“乱七八糟”说成“乱八九糟”。
(2)由于语言、心理、社会和历史的原因,成语的真实含义同字面意义之间往往有不同的差异。例如:英语****语“to bring the house dousic与古代的演员有关。当时,只要音乐响起,准备出场的演员就要立即走到台前,在观众面前进行表演,不管他是否已准备好。因此,后来“face the music”指不得不去面对一些令人不快的事情。又如汉语中的“毛遂自荐”原指战国时期赵国平原君门客毛遂,见平原君挑选20名说客去联楚抗
