[ 摘要] 《双城记》是狄更斯作品中仅有的两部历史小说之一,其背景为历史上
有名的法国大革命。众所周知,狄更斯是一个批判现实主义的作家,不过需要注意的是
他对不良事物的抨击是以人道主义为出发点的。在《双城记》里他实际上持一种中庸的
态度。当贵族鱼肉百姓时他理所当然要为之鸣不平,而当一部分革命群众虐杀无辜时他
同样也要反对。在他的眼里,无论平民还是贵族都应该遵守一定的道德规范。书中梅尼
特大夫一家正是温文有礼讲道德的人。在情节展开上作者为他所中意的一家人的命运安
排了两个关键人物,一个是得伐石太太,另一个是西德尼·卡尔登。前者被强烈的复仇
心驱使着***成性,威胁到梅尼特大夫一家人的幸福甚至生命;后者则出于对大夫女儿
的爱,甘愿代她丈夫走上断头台,从而挽救了这个几乎要被毁灭的家庭。
在正文部分,首先,对于得伐石太太,本文从三个角度进行分析:即她的阶级状况,
她与埃弗瑞蒙德家族的世仇及她在革命中的疯狂行动。
第二,对卡尔登,文章也从三个角度来分析即:他的性格特征,他对露茜的爱以及
他伟大的创举。
结论部分在深化主题的同时,从文章结构,作品风格,人物艺术魅力及作者意图等
几个方面进一步进行了分析。
