It provides a brief overview of the current state of the mobile games industry but the primary research is focused on investigating the gameplay mechanics of mobile games. The chosen methodology is to apply and expand Game Design Patterns by identifying new patterns that describe the unique characteristics of mobile games and describing how existing patterns are modified in a mobile context. 75 new and expanded game design patterns are described in detail as well as the background survey of existing games and design workshops that provided the basis for the pattern work.
