A REVIEW OF INVESTIGATION ON
PITTING CORROSION OF AL UMINUM ALLOY

ABSTRACT Pitting corrosion of aluminum alloy is plex but important problem. This paper pro
vides a review of the recent investigation of pitting corrosion of aluminum alloy. Characteristic poten
tials ,mechanisms of the pitting initiation ,protective mechanisms of inhibitors are included in this pa
per. In addition ,some in situ imaging electrochemical techniques are discussed. These in situ methods
include electrochemical scanning tunneling microscopy ( ECSTM) ,atomic force microscopy (AFM) ,
scanning Kelvin probe force microscopy ( SKPFM) ,scanning microelectrode technique ( SMET) and
some other techniques.
