1 随着 2017 上海英语高考新增加 summary writing 版块，大家也越来越多地开始关注 “概要写作 ”，为 2018 高考做好准备。今天，我们将从学****和教学的角
度来谈谈 “概要写作 ”。
Whatis a summary?
通常， Summary 的定义如下： A summary is a written, shortened version of a
piece of writing in which you use your wording to express the main ideas. (Lee Brandon, Kelly Brandon, 2014)
解读概要写作就是用自己的语言概括原文的主旨大意和核心信息。其中，关键
词是： main ideas, shortened version, your wording ，强调用 “自己的语言 ”说出
“主旨 ”。其实， summary writing 中不仅仅包括主旨，也应该包含文中最主要的核心信息。
How to write a summary?
英语强调学****过程，所以 summary writing 也不例外。我们可以将 summary writing 分为两个环节： before you write a summary 以及 when you write a
summary. 并可以大致细化为以下步骤：
●Before you write a summary
Read the entire text and ask yourself what the author’s purpose is.
Reread the introductory paragraph(s) and find the thesis statement.
Reread the rest of the text. In each paragraph, highlight, underline, or circle the main idea and key pointsYou. can also annotate the important information.
●When you write a summary

Begin by stating the title of the text, the author’s full name (if it ’sgiven), and his
or her purpose for writing.
