The Department of Defense adoption notices for IPC/EIA J-STD-001, IPC-HDBK-001 and IPC-A-610 are reprinted below.
IPC-A-610, ‘‘Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies,’’ was adopted on 12-FEB-02 for use by the Department of
Defense (DoD). Proposed changes by DoD activities must be submitted to the DoD Adopting Activity: Com-
mander, US Army Tank-Automotive and mand, ATTN: AMSTA-TR-E/IE, Warren, MI 48397-
5000.
J-STD-001, ‘‘Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies,’’ was adopted on 19-JUL-01 for
use by the Department of Defense (DoD). Proposed changes by DoD activities must be submitted to the DoD
Adopting Activity: Commander, US Army Tank-Automotive and mand, ATTN: AMSTA-TR-E/
IE, Warren, MI 48397-5000.
IPC-HDBK-001, ‘‘Handbook and Guide to Supplement J-STD-001 (includes J-STD-001B to parison)
(IPC-HDBK-001 with Amendment 1),’’ was adopted on 19-JUL-01 for use by the Department of Defense
(DoD). Proposed changes by DoD activities must be submitted to the DoD Adopting Activity: Commander, US
Army Tank-Automotive and mand, ATTN: AMSTA-TR-E/IE, Warren, MI 48397-5000.
The Principles of In May 1995 the IPC’s Technical Activities mittee adopted Principles of
Standardization Standardization as a guiding principle of IPC’s standardization efforts.
Standards Should:
• Show relationship to Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for the
Environment (DFE)
• Minimize time to market
• Contain simple (simplified) language
• Just include spec information
• Focus on end product performance
• Include a feedback system on use and problems for future improvement
Standards Should Not:
• Inhibit innovation
• Increase time-to-market
