Abstract II Abstract The copolymers of vinyltrimethoxysilane (VTMS), acryl ate and styrene (St) were synthesized by copolymerization in order to modify the traditional St -BA coatings. The organosiloxane part of the polymer was hydrolyzed to form self cross -linked reticulate structure in the using process in order to improve the w ater -resistant , solvent -resistant and stain -resistance performance. In this dissertation, the copolymer modified by VTMS was synthesized by traditional emulsion polymerization and emulfiser -free emulsion, respectively . T he structures and properties of copo lymer s were studied. (1) Copolymers of St/ ethly acrylate (EA) /VTMS, St/ butyl acrylate (BA)/VTMS and St/VTMS have been synthesized by emulsion copolymerization using sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS) and octylphenol polyoxyethylene ether(OP -10) as multiple emulsi fiers. The copolymer was characterized by Fourier transform i
