前缀后缀的作用
1. 前缀
ad-加在单词或词根前,表示“做……,加强……”如:
adjoin 贴近;毗邻(ad join 参加→参加在一起→贴近)
adjust 调整(ad just 正确→弄正确→调整)
adhere 坚持(ad here 粘→粘在一起→坚持)
ab-,abs-加在词根前,表示“相反,变坏,离去”等
abnormal 反常的(ab normal 正常的)
abuse 滥用(ab use 用→用坏→滥用)
abstract 抽象的;心不在焉的(abs tract 拉→被拉开→心不在焉)
abstain 戒绝(abs tain 拿住→不再拿住→戒绝)
popul- 人民
population 全体居民,人口(popul 人民→居民,ation 名词字尾)
populous 人口稠密的(popul 人民→居民,ous ……的)
populate 使人民居住于……中,使人口集中在……之中,移民于……(popul 人民,ate 动词字尾,使……,做……)
uniform均匀的 unipolar单极的
2. 后缀
-ability 表名词,“能……;性质”
useability 可用性(use 用)
adaptability 适应能力(adapt 适应)可靠性
dependability 可靠性(depend 依靠)
variability 变化性(vary 变化)
lovability 可爱(love 爱)
-able 表形容词,“可……的,能……”
knowable 可知的(know知道+ able可……的)
inflammable 易燃的(inflame 点燃+ able可……的)
tractable 温顺的(tract 拉→拉得动→温顺的+ able可……的)
conceivable 想象得出的(conceive 设想,想象+ able可……的)
desirable 值得要的(desire 渴望+ able可……的)
inviolable 不容侵犯的(in 不+viol 冒犯+able;参考:violate 违反,冒犯)
3. 词根
pose: “放”词义“摆姿势”
expose:(ex +pose出,外面→放在外面→暴露)
compose:(com +pose共同→共同放在一起→组成)
pose:(de +compose在下,向下→把组成的东西向下弄没了→分解)
depose:(de +pose在下,向下→向下放→免职、降职)
deposit:(de +posit向下→低头放下一个东西→下蛋、存款、沉淀物)
