摘要:《失明症漫记》是1998年诺贝尔奖得主若泽·萨拉马戈的代表作。在这部寓言性质的小说中,萨拉马戈创造了一个虚构盲人世界。在这个世界里,人类及其文明的主要特征都被摧毁,自上而下的道德败坏将人性的丑恶暴露无遗。但与此同时,作者也塑造了医生的妻子这一善良高尚的形象。她幸运地免于遭受失明症的厄运,却不幸地目睹了道德沦丧带来的恐怖后果。她在帮助其他人生存的同时,也在帮助他们进行道德上的自我救赎。总而言之,萨拉马戈用他运用丰富的想象构造出的这个触目惊心的世界表达了现如今社会上人性的丑恶和道德的缺失。他用文字传达出的不只有他对于人类命运的关心,更有着对于道德的呼唤。

Blindness: A Call for Morality in Society

Abstract:"Blindness" is the masterpiece of Jose Saramago, the winner of Nobel Prize in Literature in 1998. In this allegorical novel, Saramago creates a fictional world of blind. In this world, both the civilization and the main features of humanity are destroyed. The moral corruption from top to bottom exposes the ugly truths of humanity. But at the same time, the author shapes a noble character, the doctor’s wife. She is lucky that she doesn’t suffer the misfortune of blindness, but sadly witnesses the horrific consequences of the moral decay. She help other people to survive and carry out their self-salvation. All in all, Saramago uses this hideous world constructed by his rich imagination to express the ugliness of humanity and moral imperfection. Through his words, he conveys not only his concern of the fate of human beings, but also the call for morality.
