Miao Nationality
China is a united country made up of 56 nationalities. The Han nationality accounts for about y-four percent of the whole population, so we usually call other nationalities the Minorities. The minorities’ population is not large but wide-spread. Just like Han nationality, the minorities have formed their own unique customs and etiquettes with a long period of development of history as well. Today I will introduce one of the minorities, that is, Miao nationality.
(一) Distribution
The Miao nationality mainly lives in Guizhou, Yunnan, Hunan and the rest of people dwell in Guangxi, Sichuan, Hainan and other places.
(二) Customs
Miao nationality has its own language and characters. Its language posed of Latin letters, but now the people usually use Chinese. Miao nationality mainly worships nature and God, while Catholicism and Christianity are also worshipped by some people. Embroidery, brocade, silver ornament and “tiaohua”(挑花) of Miao nationality enjoy the most populous prestige.
Their houses, which are called Diao Jiao Lou, were made of wood with national features. The house has two floors. The upper floor is for people to live and the lower one is used for rearing livestock in pens or piling up sundries. The foothold of the house may look precarious, but it is actually steady and safe.
