商务英语(Business English)作为普通英语的一种社会功能性变体,尤其在经济全球化和区域一体化的今天,与我们的各种商务活动都息息相关。因为这种语言所具有的特性和语用价值,使其在会议、信函、法律性公文、商业广告等为载体的语言中无处不在。“商务英语语言的形式、词汇、内容等均有所学的专业来决定”,所以其词汇也具有明显的专业性和不一样的翻译特点,本文着重探讨商务英语词汇的特点和翻译问题。

由于企业、商家、集团或国家之间相互的经贸往来频繁,同时业务涉及范围宽广,为避免因语言文化的差异,而产生的误解,根据国际贸易惯例和法规,商务词汇力求准确无误,一般选用词义单一的词代替词义灵活的词,选用正式的词代替口语词。
下面列举一些正规表达和口语表达:修改:amend—change,correct 给予:assign—give解释:construe—explain 同意:consent—agreement认为:deem—consider 立即:forthwith—at once临时的:interim—temporary 参与:partake—join要求:require—ask 递交:surrender—give
显然,上述词语的前一种表达都是比较正式,且词义单一的,而后者都是通用英语的口语常见词,而商务英语词汇常使用前者,使文体更加庄重,增加严肃感。

商务英语涉及国际贸易、商务会谈、经济、金融、营销及保险等诸多领域的专业内容,而每一领域都有自己的专业术语,因此商务英语中使用大量的专业词汇。赢在单词一书提醒我们:商务英语具有极强的专业性,主要特性为两个方面,一是商务英语词汇有大量的专业术语;二是商务英语词汇中有很多来自普通英语,却被赋予特定的专业内涵。
