关键词写作缩写考试效度信度写作考试 Abstract The present study aims to examine the validity of the summary writing as a measure of the writing ability of the college students, to look into the reliability of its marking, to provide a prototype summary writing test format, and with this prototype test to examine the practicability of carrying out the summary writing test in CET. In the study the theories and practices in writing tests are reviewed so as to construct a theoretical framework which can serve as a basis for the testing of summary writing. In addition to practicality, validity and reliability are the two basic requirements of the modern language tests, and they also apply to the test of English writing ability. After the literature review of validity, reliability and practicality of testing of writing, five well established English tests are surveyed with an emphasis on the writing section of the tests. Performance conditions are then set for the summary writing test format and a small pilot test is carried out to find its quality of usefulness. A revised summary writing test paper is therefore developed and used in the main trial of the experiment. The reliability of the test scoring is ensured through a rigorous markers’ training procedure and by using a detai
