New National Curriculum and English Grammar Teaching in Junior High School Abstract: The fundamental aim of the New National Curriculum is to develop prehensive petence, and end the following practices: Over-emphasizing the transmissionandexplanation of knowledge about grammar and vocabulary; neglecting to develop students’ ability to use language. Under the influence of the reform, some English teachers put all the attention on municative English, and ignore the grammar teaching. However, English grammar teaching is an important part in English teaching in junior high school. The purpose of grammar teaching in New National Curriculum is not to weaken the grammar teaching, but to optimize the grammar teaching. The paper states the object and requirements of the New National Curriculum, analyzes the present situation of English grammar teaching in junior high school, and discusses some measures to optimize the English grammar teaching in New National Curriculum in junior high school.

Ⅰ. The importance of grammar teaching Grammar learning occupies a vital position in English language learning. If the English vocabulary pared to the bricks and tiles, then grammar will be the beams and frameworks, they both can bined dexterously together to build strong houses. Without solid beams and framework, a house can’t be built even if there are more bricks and title tablets. Learning grammar well can guarantee that one can use skillfully language structure to express their clear ideas, write elegant articles, and can also ensure accuracy of munication.
