Typical depth correlation tools are:
Gamma Ray – to tie in to natural gamma rays of the formation.

Casing Collar Locator (CCL) can be used as a correlation device for depth control purposes and to locate and record the position of down hole equipment such as, packers, sliding sleeves and nipples that may be present in the well. L log can be very useful as a permanent record of the position of down hole equipment.
Two powerful s are positioned with opposite poles adjacent. This creates lines of ic flux which pass through a coil between the s. When there is a change in metal volume, the lines of ic flux are disturbed. This generates an EMF in the coil which is converted to a frequency by a voltage to frequency converter.
