Finallyin1876,theCorporationofLondon,whowereresponsibleforthatpartoftheThames,decidedthattheproblemcouldbeputoffnolonger. pletedin1894,,manypeopledon'trealisewhyitissodifferentfromLondon'sotherbridges. HowaDesignwasChosen ,the"mittee"wasformedin1876,petition. Over50designswereputforwardforconsideration,,itwasn'tuntilOctober1884thatHoraceJones,theCityArchitect,incollaborationwithJohnWolfeBarry,offeredthechosendesignforTowerBridgeasasolution. TheBuildingoftheBridge Ittook8years,5majorcontractorsandtherelentlesslabourof432constructionworkerstobuildTowerBridge. Twomassivepiershadtobesunkintotheriverbedtosupporttheconstruction,over11,,bothtoprotecttheunderlyingsteelworkandtogivethebridgeam
