PREFACE
The awareness on environmental matters is spreading fast and attained importance on global scale, which has led
to a better scope for a systematic study in Environmental Science and Engineering. In the last decade, a good
number of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in environmental science and engineering e up in
most of the Universities in India, aiming at the tremendous employment potential in this area. In addition, the
University mission has made it mandatory that at least one paper on environmental studies should be
compulsorily included in the syllabus of any basic degree course in the country. Most of the newly begun
undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Environmental Science and Engineering have laboratory sessions
attached to it. Many students of these courses are missing the fundamentals necessary for conducting experiments
in this field due to the non-availability of a standard reference book.
