Although Han rule wasterminated in the 17th century by the Manchus, who started the Qingdynasty, Zhong Qiu Jie continues to be a commemoration of theoverthrow of the Mongolians by Han people。
中秋节的传统食品是月饼，月饼是圆行的，象征团圆，反映了人们对家人团聚的美好愿望。中秋节吃月饼据说始于元代，当时，朱元璋领导汉族人民把反抗元朝暴政，约定在八月十五这一天起义，以互增月饼的办法把字条夹在月饼中传递消息。中秋节吃月饼的****俗便在民间传开来。     后来，朱元璋终于把元朝推翻，成为明朝的第一个皇帝，虽然其后满清入主中国，但人民仍旧庆祝这个推翻异族统治的节日。
民间拜月
　　相传古代齐国丑女无盐，幼年时曾虔诚拜月，长大后，以超群品德入宫，但未被宠幸。某年八月十五赏月，天子在月光下见到她，觉得她美丽出众，后立她为皇后，中秋拜月由此而来。月中嫦娥，以美貌著称，故少女拜月，愿“貌似嫦娥，面如皓月”。
月光马儿
　　　明清时期月神形象发生了重要变化，由早期纯道教色彩的以嫦娥为主的月宫图景演变为佛道交融的月光菩萨与捣药玉兔并在的世俗形象。这个时期，人们供奉绘有月光菩萨的月光纸，也叫“月光马儿”。
