Development by Cause and Effect Writing Cause and Effect A cause-effect essay is a piece of expository writing showing or explaining the cause and/or effect of something. When we write a cause-effect paper, we are actually making a causal analysis. Cause and Effect Two questions should be answered in a causal analysis: What is the cause of something that has happened?
