This is the third unit of Book Three. In the Listening and Speaking section, you will learn how to offer encouragement and will do some practical exercises. In the Reading and Writing Section, Text A tells about how critical the writer’s parents were in helping him through a nightmare that might have engulfed him and how important help and support are in one’s life. Text B, as the title indicates, illustrates that forgiveness opens up the path toward true joy and healing. And Text C relates a touching story about a young man who gave up his kidney and his dream of playing football in order to save the life of his beloved grandma.

Ⅰ. Objectives
After studying this unit, the students are expected to be able to
master the basic language and skills to offer encouragement;

understand the main idea of Text A, Text B and Text C, and master the useful sentence structures and words and expressions found in the exercises relevant to the first two texts;

know how to use V-ing phrases, V-ed phrases and To V phrases used as adverbials;

know how to write a want ad;

The teacher begins with the Preview to make sure that the students have some idea of what this unit is all about. After that, the teacher activates Listening and Speaking exercises as follows:
