X-ray powder diffractometer, scanning electronic microscope, mercury intrusion porosimetry and thermal analyser were employed to characterize the powders. The results show that Mg(OH)2 poses to MgO by one step with a total mass loss of %. When the calcination temperature increases from 400 to 600℃, Mg(OH)2 poses to MgO from spherical-like to plate-like particles.
