General Designing:
I. Teaching aims:
1. Listen to a short piece of recording about AIDS; finish the exercises of Lesson 9 and Lesson 10 in College English Focus listening, Book 1;
2. Describe the disease of AIDS and give some information of it;
3. Grasp the main idea of the texts and under the reading material thoroughly;
4. Write a passage following the problem-solution pattern according to one of the topics given in page109 exercise XI.
5. Master all the important new words, some useful phrases and sentence structures in Unit 5, including the spelling and their usages.
II. Time allotment and teaching procedures:
This unit is to be finished in 12 periods. It is roughly divided as follows:
Listening/Speaking-centered activities: 4 periods.
Reading-centered activities: 6 periods.
Finishing the exercises and do some quiz: 2 periods.
